Thank you for exploring the different ways you can support The London Humane Society. You CAN make a difference!
One time, quarterly, and monthly contributions are all great ways to provide for the animals and lend your support. Monthly gifts in particular are a simple, convenient and cost-effective way to support the animals in our care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Another powerful way to support the London Humane Society is through Legacy Giving (or Planned Giving) where assets (as opposed to cash on hand) are used to make a gift. You can learn more about Legacy Giving below:

Legacy Giving is a way of making a donation to the London Humane Society that will ensure unwanted and cruelly treated animals receive proper care and shelter until they can be adopted into a family. This type of donation, also called planned giving, is a way to use your assets as opposed to cash on hand to make a gift.
By remembering the London Humane Society, you help us to sustain the quality of our animal care and protection programs for years to come. Your lasting commitment to the animals ensures the continued success of our efforts to provide our community’s abandoned, abused and neglected animals with a compassionate facility dedicated to their well-being, to act as their advocate respecting them as the living, sentient creatures they are, and to educate our community about their intrinsic value as fellow inhabitants of this world.
Donors can use the following methods to leave a legacy gift to the London Humane Society:

Bequests are gifts specified in your Will
You can designate either a certain amount of money, a percentage of your estate, a particular asset or the residual of your estate. A Will gives clear legal instructions regarding your intentions for your state and is important even for those with modest assets. If you pass without a Will, you are considered to have died “intestate” which means that the government rather than you will decide on how your assets are divided.
RRSPs and RRIFs
RRSPs and RRIFs are considered gifts when the London Humane Society is named as the beneficiary. By giving your RRSP and/or RRIF, you are not only preserving the capital of your estate by avoiding taxes, but you leave your mark on unwanted or cruelly treated animals in your community. These assets are highly taxed after death, but by donating them you would offset the tax that your estate would owe upon your death.
Life Insurance
Life Insurance is one of the easiest ways to make a major gift to the London HUmane Society. By taking out a life insurance policy and naming the London Humane Society the beneficiary, you can make a significant donation. You make fixed monthly payments for a set term of either 10, 15 or 20 years, you will get a tax receipt for your monthly premiums while creating a legacy that will live on.
Stocks and Securities
Stocks and Securities became popular after the 2009 Federal Government budget when the capital gains tax on such securities was eliminated if donated to a charity.
Trusts
Trusts offer several options to people who wish to establish a trust fund for the London Humane Society. Charitable Remainder Trusts are a good option for people who would like to make a large gift to the London Humane Society but who need to retain the use of their assets during their lifetime. By setting up a trust agreement, you can retain your assets to guarantee the income you need during your lifetime.

All Occasion Gift Letters
You can make a donation to help our animals in memory of a person or an animal, in recognition of a birthday, a wedding, anniversary, graduation or retirement, to congratulate a new pet owner on a recent adoption, to commend a dog on successfully completing obedience training, in honour of someone special, or for any special occasion at all.
Gift Letters can also be a great way to help you with the difficult decision of finding a Christmas gift for a favourite someone on your list. And best of all, you can help unwanted and abused animals at the same time.
We acknowledge these gifts of love by sending a letter (card for Christmas) to recipients telling them of your thoughtful contribution to the work of the London Humane Society. Not only does your gift help the many homeless animals living at the shelter, but we are often told the letters and cards we send are highly cherished by their recipients.
To arrange for a letter or card to be sent to a special person or animal we ask that you provide us with specific details, including your name and phone number, the name full address of the recipient, along with details of the occasion you wish to acknowledge. Orders can be submitted in the following ways:
- Email to administration@londonhumanesociety.ca
- Telephoned in to (519) 451-0630 ext 231
- Faxed to (519) 451-8995
- Mailed to 624 Clarke Road, London ON N5V 3K5
- OR you can stop by and give us the details in person (then have a visit with the wonderful animals who are temporarily calling the shelter their home).
United Way Donor Choice Program
More and more people have been making use of the Donor Choice Program available through the United Way.
We would encourage you to think of the London Humane Society and the many distressed animals in our care when contributing to the United Way campaign this year. At the same time, you might also want to remind your friends and colleagues of the availability of the program when they consider a contribution to United Way… And to those of you who have supported us in this way in the past, we thank you.
Support or Host a Private Fundraising Event
Many people in the London community regularly organize and host private events designed to raise money on behalf of the London Humane Society. The London Humane Society may not be directly involved in the planning, production or promotion of these events.
If you are interested in planning a third-party event for the London Humane Society, please contact: events@londonhumane.ca
